You probably haven’t tried to configure 3CX with Cbeyond’s SIPConnect service, as it’s not publicly supported yet. I’m testing a 3CX connection to Cbeyond’s SIPConnect as a trial and here are my findings so far;
First of all, it was the simplest easiest SIP Conversion I’ve ever done. We were done in about an hour from start to finish. Keep in mind my 3CX system was already running, extensions were already setup, the only thing I didn’t have was a connection to the PSTN.
In 3CX you should see Cbeyond as a VOIP provider, if you don’t see this option, then first thing you should do is upgrade your 3CX to the latest version. Once you do that, you can use the wizard to add Cbeyond VOIP.
You’ll notice that the wizard auto fills in the SIP proxy addresses, these may be different for your area. Since this option is dimmed out, you need to leave the default addresses, click Next, then click Back, now you’ll notice they are not dimmed anymore! You can now enter the addresses you got from Cbeyond.
Follow the wizard providing your primary phone number as the authentication ID and username along with your Cbeyond provided password. Once configured, go back into the SIP settings for the connection you just created and make sure you have g.711 Ulaw codec selected.
At this point you should be able to register with Cbeyond. Once registered, if you are not able to make outbound calls but your call rules are setup correctly, go into VOIP provder settings and go into Gateway/Provider Outbound Parameters. Now change the “from: user part” to “LineNumber” external number of line. You should now be good to make outbound calls. Reasoning for this is, by default 3CX sends you extension to Cbeyond as the number trying to make the call, and as Cbeyond does not know or care about your local extensions, it denies access. Changing it to the external number lets the call go through.
I will be testing the system over the next few days and will report back. On a side note, sound quality is impeccable over SIPConnect.

1The 3CX test with Cbeyond SIPConnect was completely successful. No issues what so ever. Voice clarity is good and there is no echo, etc. During this trial I did, however, discover an issue with 3CX client running under Vista Ultimate where every other inbound call cannot hear me. Weird, and hopefully will get resolved quick. Appears that the client simply does not respond on RTP.

2I’ve been using 3CX with Cbeyond SIPConnect service for a while now, actually we have about 4-5 people load testing the setup. So far, the only problem we’ve had is with touch tones going through. When we call a number requiring touch tone respone, it’s just like we are not pushing anything while we are.
Don’t worry, we have a temporary fix for this. Cbeyond uses RFC2833 for DTMF but for some reason this isn’t working right now with 3CX system so in our softphone (or hard phone) we disable RFC2833 and SIP Info to force INBand DTMF.
This will work for most systems and Cbeyond/3CX are working on a fix to make RFC2833 work.

3During your testing, have you had any problems with inbound calls? We tried activating our service today and kept having “Unidentified incoming call. Review INVITE and adjust source identification:” errors. How can we resolve this issue?
Thanks,

4I am trying to configure our 3CX server with CBeyond. When I make in-bound calls, I receive a message that states ” Unidentified incoming call. Review INVITE and adjust source identification:” Any ideas of how we can solve this problem?

5Devo,
Under Manage VOIP/Gateway, Source Identification you have TO: HOST Part set to custom field with custome value of the URL for Sipconnect service? In our area this value is sipconnect.hou0.cbeyond.net.

6Nadeem,
Thanks for your assistance. I will try this as soon as I can get CBeyond to let me test again. Prior, I would try and make a call to a number from my cell phone to a phone connected to the 3CX system and the Source ID error would come up on the system log along with a fast busy signal. I will report back either way.
Thanks,
Devo

7Nadeem,
Thanks for the info. I was able to make inbound and outbound calls on CBeyond. So far, everything is working good. I am using Polycom 501′2. When I put a caller on hold, the call drops. Any ideas of what I can do to play music while the call is on hold. Also, I haven’t tried transfers yet, will I have any problems. Any other feedback from your testing will be a great help.
Thanks,
Devo

8Devo,
Have you tried putting callers on hold via the softphone? Calls should not drop, but I would suggest to try to narrow down the possibilities. Music on hold should work fine as long as it’s enabled under general settings/other.
Also, be sure to upgrade to the latest version for 3CX which is 6.0.664.

9Nadeem,
Upgrading to 6.0.664 worked. I can now put calls on hold but no music. It’s probably something small. I’ll be working with the AA and transfer features next. Any idea what the settings for Polycom IP 501 and 601 should be?
Thanks for your help.

11Nadeem,
It had to do with something in the General settings. I got MOH to work. So far so good with the phone system.
I will keep posting here on my tests.
Thanks,

12Nadeem,
How do I configure Asterisk for use with CBeyond? In other words, what file do I modify?
Thanks,

13Divyash,
You’ll need to configure sip.conf, extensions.conf and voicemail.conf files. Sip.conf file is what will get your Asterisk configured to connect to SIP provider.
